How to Setup Google Apps Domain with SMTP on new READYNAS 6.0 (or any other SMTP program)
####################################################
This is how I setup an Alert Email Contact for my READYNAS 6.0. This way I get all alerts at “anything@email.com” from an email “myemail@infotinks.com”. Note I have access to both emails. The “myemail@infotinks.com” is the FROM and the “anything@email.com” is the TO that will receive the alerts. Its important to note that with Alert emails its really only mandatory that the right email address recieves emails which is the TO, the FROM email must be setup as well, after all, every email has to come from something, it cant just be generated out of thin air and land in your “TO” fields Inbox. The FROM has to be with any email that has SMTP capabilities – which is all email providers essentially – some emails require encryption (thus SSL/TLS) and some dont. The TO Field only requires one box of information (the email to send to). The FROM needs more: USERNAME which is usually the full email address of the “FROM”, the PASSWORD of your FROMm the SMTP server, and the PORT of SMTP the FROM SMTP server uses,  and finally if or not ENCRYPTION is mandatory. For other emails you can do a google search for example to find out the smtp setting for Yahoo email go to www.google.com and search for “Yahoo SMTP server settings”.
Note I have a domain called infotinks.com from Godaddy and I signed it up for Google Apps (which gives me free email – which will be used as my FROM – and also webservice – which is this website your viewing)
==WHAT I PUT IN THE FIELDS:==
EMAIL TO SEND ALERT TO (essentially this is the “TO” field): anything@email.com
[Everything below is in regards to the “FROM”]
EMAIL PROVIDER: Gmail <– the question is asked when setting up the Alert Contact, however “custom” also works
USER: myemail@infotinks.com
PASSWORD: *********
SMTP Server: smtp.gmail.com
USE SSL (or USE TLS <-same thing): YES
SMTP Port: 587
